Former Obama Official Encourages Florida Students To Boycott Schools

A former Barack Obama official has what he calls "a brilliant and tragically necessary idea" to make schools safer.

Former Education Secretary Arne Duncan met with parents in Coral Springs on Tuesday. There, he encouraged them to allow their kids to boycott school in the run-up to the midterm elections.

Duncan told local news outlets that the specific boycot dates he has in mind are National Voter Registration Day in September and the day before November's elections.

A woman who lost a nephew in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting tells the Sun Sentinel she hopes the idea will spread around the country.
