Florida Teens Sentenced To 1 Year Juvie For Other Teen's Death

The father of a Florida teenager who was beaten to death in Winter Park calls the sentencing of the teens who killed him "a bad joke."

Roger Trindade was 15-years-old when he died of blunt force trauma in October of 2016.

Simeon Hall and Jesse Sutherland, each convicted of manslaughter, were sentenced Monday to serve about one year in a juvenile detention center.

A jury found Hall and Sutherland guilty of manslaughter and two counts of battery earlier this month.

On Oct. 15, 2016, Trindade was lying on the ground unconscious near Central Park on Park Avenue.

The Orange County medical examiner's office ruled that Trindade's cause of death was blunt force trauma.

The Department of Juvenile Justice will decide on Monday how long the boys' sentences will be.

WESH reports that the victim's father, Rodrigo Trindade, said the sentence is "a shame on the state of Florida."
