Discharges From Lake O Begin Again

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is once again releasing water from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie Estuary.

The releases began early Friday morning, after a suspension of discharges that had been in place for the last few days.

Officials say they'll vary the flow of each release to reduce the environmental impact.

Critics say the discharges are hurting the environment and the economy because rain, pollutants and heat have combined with the lake water to create toxic algae blooms in the estuaries.
