Florida Ranks In Top 5 States To Retire In, According To New Study

A new study has determined something that we Floridians already know -- the Sunshine State is one of the best places to retire in the nation.

The top retirement spot, though, may surprise you.

The Bankrate.com study lists the best and worst places in the country to retire.  South Dakota is at the top of the list.

South Dakota is followed by Utah, Idaho, New Hampshire and Florida, to round out the top five.

Bankrate looked at several factors in ranking the states. Those include the:

  • Cost of living
  • Crime rates
  • Health care quality
  • Taxes
  • Weather
  • Cultural vitality
  • Well-being

The study found that New York is the worst state to retire with New Mexico and Maryland in a tie for second worst.
