Homestead Man Nabbed For Posing As A Police Officer

Authorities in Monroe County nabbed a young man over the weekend who they say was posing as a police officer while driving through the Florida Keys.

Nineteen-year-old Sandro Sierra Gil, of Homestead, was arrested Saturday. He now faces charges of unlawful use of blue lights and fraud.

Officials with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Sierra Gil turned on a blue light while driving on the Overseas Highway in Key Largo.

Sierra Gil is accused of using the light to signal himself as a law enforcement officer after a traffic dispute.

Authorities say an actual deputy later pulled Sierra Gil's Toyota over and Gil admitted that he was not a law enforcement officer. Sierra Gil told the deputy he saw a small SUV tailgating two motorcycles and decided to intervene, Linhardt said.

Sierra Gil told the deputy that he "just wanted to talk to them" and "didn't want problems with police."
