Former Florida Lawyer On The Lam For 4 Years Resurfaces In Texas

A Broward County lawyer and police-proclaimed "fraudster" who has seemingly disappeared for the past four years is now in federal custody.

Former in-house lawyer and president of a former ort Lauderdale-based online commodities company, now defunct, 71-year-old Michael Ralph Casey, was before a judge in the U.S. District Court in Houston on Tuesday.

The circumstances of his reappearance were not immediately known, though it has been confirmed that he is not fighting extradition to Miami.

Casey was indicted in August 2012 on federal mail and wire fraud conspiracy charges for his alleged involvement in what prosecutors said was an international investment scheme that defrauded more than 700 investors out of approximately $19 million in less than 18 months.

Federal prosecutors said that Casey, who practiced law in Fort Lauderdale for 36 years, conspired with two convicted felons to defraud investors.

He did not show up to a hearing in April, 2014, and hadn't resurfaced again until Monday.
