State Puts Florida SunPass Operator On Notice

The company that runs Florida's SunPass system is being put on notice by the state because a system upgrade that was supposed to take six-days has now lasted more than three weeks.

The Florida Department of Transportation sent a letter to the vendor Conduent, giving them 10 days to get the system up and running. If they fail to do so, the letter states that they will be risking their $287 million contract.

In the letter, sent to Conduent on Thursday, FDOT Secretary Mike Dew acknowledged for the first time the agency was not simply withholding toll transactions "to better serve the customer," but because of "unreliability" with Conduent's system.

Dew wrote that approximately 90 million toll transactions remained unprocessed statewide since the start of June because Conduent was processing duplicate transactions.

If Conduent is unable to provide assurances, the state can suspend payments on the remainder of the seven-year contract, of which Conduent is still due more than $180 million.
