Coconut Grove Fixes Up Homes for Veterans, Low-Income Elderly

Over 150 volunteers will gather Saturday to repair homes of veterans and low-income elderly residents in West Coconut Grove.  The funding comes from over $200,000 donated by The Home Depot Foundatoin and $300,00 in CDBG funding designated by City of Miami Commissioner Ken Russell.

Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade will make critical repairs to homes.  Volunteers will work on kitchen & bathroom renovations, roof replacements, plumbing & electrical, energy efficiency upgrades, exterior painting and landscaping.

Commissioner Russell says protecting and rehabilitating the West Grove Community has been a priority from the beginning of his tenure as District 2 Commissioner.  The effort is a way to preserve affordable home ownership in a community experiencing rapid gentrification.
