Florida School Districts Telling Students To Leave Backpacks At Home

Several Florida school districts are telling students to leave their backpacks at home during the final days of the school year.

The Leon County school district announced Thursday that students would not be allowed to bring backpacks next week, citing "security benefits" of the ban.

In a statement, officials said the ban does not apply to purses.

After last week's school shooting in Texas, Polk County officials also announced a backpack ban.

Seminole County and Orange County also have similar policies for the final school days. The district has reportedly banned backpacks for a quite a while now in order to cut down on students bringing items such as water balloons to school.
