30th Volusia County Student Arrested For Threats Since MSD Shooting

For the 30th time since the deadly Valentine's Day shootings at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, a Volusia County student has been charged with making school threats.

The sheriff's office arrested a 14-year-old student at River Springs Middle School in Orange City on Wednesday.

The boy had allegedly warned his classmates, "None of y'all come to school on the last day because I am going to shoot it up."

He claimed he was joking, but such threats are no joke to Sheriff Mike Chitwood, whose office is holding both students and their families responsible for the cost of investigating these incidents.

The sheriff's office is reportedly fining those students and their families $1,000+ as part of punishment.
