Family Says FL Care Facility Left Grandmother In Sun For Hours Before Death

A family says their 98-year-old grandmother died after a Palm Beach County health care facility left her outside in 90-degree heat for more than five hours before her death.

Eva Mae Rhodes had second-degree burns and was unresponsive when paramedics brought her from Lakeside Health Center to St. Mary's Hospital in 2017.

According to the lawsuit, Rhodes died of hypothermia two weeks later.

Candace McKinley says her grandmother suffered from dementia, couldn't talk, and was in a wheelchair.

A report from the Department of Children and Families says the elderly woman's temperature was 103 degrees when she was taken to the hospital, where nurses contacted the agency.

The lawsuit says Rhodes was a patient there for three years.
