Rain Moving Through Florida Over Memorial Day Weekend, NHC Says

The National Hurricane Center continues to track a low pressure area just east of Belize on the Yucatan peninsula that could put a damper on Floridians' long, holiday weekend plans.

The system is producing a large area of cloudiness and showers extending from the northwestern Caribbean Sea across Cuba and into the Florida peninsula.

Forecasters say there's a 40-percent chance of subtropical or tropical development late this week as the system moves slowly northward into the Gulf of Mexico.

In any case, Florida can expect locally heavy rainfall during the next several days and likely through Memorial Day.
