"Poor People's March" Takes Over Florida Capitol

The Florida state capitol is the scene of yet another protest: a "poor people's march" against racism and poverty took place on Monday.

The Reverend Derrick Mercer of Tallahassee's Bethel Missionary Baptist Church says the rich keep getting richer and poor folks pay the price. He says the U.S. "must value people more than profit."

During the lunch hour on Monday, a half dozen activists dressed in prison garb, bound by papier-Mache chains and singing spiritual songs led about a dozen people, including prison reformers, through the streets of Tallahassee and into the Capitol.

Mercer says the first thing Floridians need to do is pass Amendment 4 in November that restores voting rights to former felons.
