Do American's Have Enough $$ To Plan For Hurricanes? FEMA Says No

The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) says 70 percent of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck and don't have the extra money to plan for a hurricane or other disaster.

Brock Long spoke yesterday at the Governor's Hurricane Conference in West Palm Beach.

According to Long, asking people to prepare their home and buy food and supplies for a three-to-five day period is financially unrealistic.

He said authorities need to rethink the preparation advice they issue in the run-up to a storm.

Florida's 2018 hurricane season begins in just two weeks.
