Rain In The Forecast For South Florida This Week

Rain, rain, go away!

Late Sunday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center identified a low pressure area across the eastern Gulf of Mexico, well off-shore of the southwest Florida at that point.

That area has a 30 percent chance of development by Tuesday evening, according to forecasters, and a 40 percent chance of development over the next five days.

South Florida remains the focal point for abundant rain during the movement of this low pressure system. Locally heavy rains are possible over the next several days, with accumulations of 2-4” reasonable across the area through Tuesday evening.

Residents of Miami Beach say they're seeing floodwaters at their highest since Hurricane Irma in September. 7News cameras showed ankle-deep water near Pennsylvania Avenue and Española Way and nearly knee-deep water near 15th Street.

There is no let up in sight as the National Weather Service warns that ponding of water on roadways is possible in low-lying and poor-drainage areas today.

There are no other active watches or advisories in effect at this time.

The wet weather is expected to continue throughout the work week.
