New research suggests that African Americans suffering from heart failure are less likely than white patients to get care from a heart specialist.
Earlier research shows care overseen by a cardiologist improves survival rates for heart failure patients. But a new study by researchers at the University of Arizona's College of Medicine found white patients are 40-percent more likely than blacks to get primary care from a cardiologist.
The doctor who directed the study says bias in clinical decision-making leads to unequal treatment for racial and ethnic minorities.
