Pompano Man Arrested After Wife Found Dead, Wrapped In Tarp At Home

Authorities say a Pompano Beach bar owner was arrested Tuesday and accused of murdering his wife.

Police have charged 51-year-old Patrick Palmer with first-degree murder in relation to the death of his 63-year-old wife, Sherry Palmer.

BSO officials said they believe Palmer engaged in an elaborate cover-up after his wife's death in an attempt to make her family and friends believe she was still alive.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots the night of April 14. After friends couldn't reach Sherry, deputies went to the couple's Pompano Beach home to do a welfare check.

Sherry’s body was found on April 17 in the backyard of the home that the couple shared.

Authorities say the woman's decomposed body was wrapped in several tarps. Near the body were a pickaxe, shove, and what appeared to be a shallow grave, officials said.

Sherry Palmer had been shot twice in the head, officials said.

Patrick and Sherry Palmer are the owners of Chit Chat’s bar in Pompano Beach.
