RI Lawmaker Calls 19-Year-Old Parkland Shooting Survivor "Dummy" On Twitter

A Rhode Island lawmaker has deleted a tweet calling a school shooting survivor a "dummy" for her response to the shooting that killed four people at a Waffle House in Nashville.

Republican state Rep. Mike Chippendale was responding to 19-year-old Emma Gonzalez, a survivor of the Parkland, Florida, shooting.

She cited reports that the shooter's gun was taken away by an unarmed man as evidence that teachers don't need guns.

Chippendale said the ensuing manhunt might have been avoided if the man was armed.

The tweet, which has since been deleted, was posted on the same day as the inaugural meeting of Rhode Island's new gun safety working group, which was formed by Rhode Island Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo in the wake of the Parkland shooting that left 17 people dead.
