Boca Raton Mayor Fined For Violating County's Code Of Ethics

The mayor of Boca Raton will pay a $500 fine after admitting to a violation of Palm Beach County's Code of Ethics.

The county's Commission on Ethics says Mayor Susan Haynie admitted to violating the rules by voting on matters that gave financial benefit to a developer who is a client of the mayor's property management company.

Haynie was investigated for misuse of public office and failure to disclose voting conflicts.

Authorities say she received a letter of reprimand in addition to the fine.

The Florida Commission on Ethics is still looking into whether the mayor's failure to disclose her business resulted in breaking any laws.

If that's the case, she could be removed from office and/or fined up to $10,000.
