Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease Causes Closure Of FL A&M Research School

An outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease has forced officials to close the Florida A&M University Developmental Research School for sanitation.  

The K-through-12 school is closed through Monday.  

According to WTXL-TV in Tallahassee, the school closed Thursday afternoon when school leaders received a report of a student contracting the virus.  

Hand, foot and mouth disease causes: 

  • Sore throat
  • Blisters in the mouth
  • Rashes  

It is not considered life-threatening, but is highly contagious.  

People can catch the virus from contact with other people and objects like door handles.
