Florida Authorities Use New Red Flag Law To Confiscate Guns

Florida's new "Red Flag Law," enacted after the mass school shooting in Parkland, is being used in Tallahassee.

A judge has granted a request from Tallahassee police to confiscate guns from a man with a history of psych problems who has threatened the lives of law enforcement officers.

The judge says 21-year-old Christopher Mark Newhouse Jr., of Tallahassee, poses a significant danger to himself or others in the near future.

The Tallahassee Police Department filed a petition seeking a court order to remove multiple firearms from his home.

He's been ordered to surrender his weapons, including an AR-15, by Wednesday.

The filing is the first in Leon County under the new law.
