Caretakers Accused Of Stealing More Then $1M From Elderly FTL Woman

Officials say two woman hired to care for an elderly Fort Lauderdale woman drained the woman's bank account instead of actually caring for her.

According to authorities, 54-year-old Angella Morrison, of Fort Lauderdale, and 29-year-old AnnaKay Johnson, of Coral Springs, were arrested Saturday on charges of grand theft and exploitation of an elderly victim.

Morrison and Johnson were working as caretakers for the woman, gaining her trust and her money, according to Fort Lauderdale Police officials.

The suspects manipulated the woman into giving them hefty bonus checks while employed.

After the woman died in March 2016, authorities say the suspects kept going. They allegedly depleted her bank account, making several withdrawals totaling more than $1 million.

The suspects also stole more than 50 pieces of the woman's jewelry and pawned it to get more cash.

Detectives ask anyone who believes they may have been a victim of the suspects to call police at 954-828-5700.
