Wednesday marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights advocate and leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In honor of Dr. King, here are several events occurring throughout South Florida:
MLK Remembrance Day - Miami
A tribute ceremony, held by the Black Affairs Advisory Board under the Office of Community Advocacy
Wednesday beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center
111 NW 1st Street in Miami
Community leaders will reflect on King's religious legacy, and civil rights activists will speak about current affairs in the United States.
Ride Out for MLK
The Roots Collective and South Florida leaders will commemorate King's life and legacy, as well as the lives lost to violence with a symbolic funeral procession
Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m.
The African-American Research Library and Cultural Center located
2650 Sistrunk Blvd in Fort Lauderdale
Other events will be held at:

- Athalie Range Park
- Located at 525 NW 62nd St. in Miami
MLK March Against Violence
The MLK march also serves as the Unity March Against Gun Violence, held in memory for people lost to senseless crime. It will be led by Miami City Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, clergy members and community leaders.
Wednesday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
This procession will include students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
A candlelight ant gospel concert will begin at 6 p.m.
