A Florida middle school teacher who made headlines when she was accused of creating a podcast and social media account promoting white nationalist views has resigned from her job.
Dayanna Volitich stepped down from her position at Crystal River Middle School on Monday, the Citrus County School District said in a statement.
The school board will consider whether to approve the resignation at its April 10 meeting.
The 25-year-old social studies teacher was removed from the classroom after an investigation began into her possible involvement in the podcast, which included:
- Saying certain races don’t learn as well as others
- Condemning Muslims
- Calling for Muslim "eradication"
- Bragging about teaching white nationalist views in school
Volitich, who posted under the name Tiana Dalichov, claimed the views were satire and meant to attract followers.
"None of the statements released about my being a white nationalist or white supremacist have any truth to them, nor are my political beliefs injected into my teaching of social studies curriculum," she said in a statement last month.
The school district offered no comment on Volitich's resignation since its investigation is ongoing.
