Police: Miami Man Pulled Knife On Pastor, Churchgoer Who Prayed With Him

Authorities say a Miami man assaulted a pastor and church member after they prayed with him.

Thirty-year-old Ramon Ortiz Felipe was arrested Sunday on charges including:

  • Burglary
  • Aggravated assault at a religious institution
  • Criminal mischief in a place of worship

An arrest report said Felipe was walking outside the church at 1901 West Flagler Street when one of the two victims noticed that he seemed to be intoxicated. The man told Felipe "being drunk or high is not the way of God" and requested to pray with him, the report said.

Felipe agreed to pray with them but after they finished, he went into the church, which was closed to the public at the time. He then refused to leave, saying "I'm not going anywhere" and pulling the church's door off the frame, the report said.

Felipe allegedly pulled out a silver pocket knife and yelled "I am going to kill the both of you." The two men fled to a car and locked the doors, but Felipe followed and started hitting the driver's side window, the report said.

He eventually fled but was caught a short time later.

Officials booked him into jail where he remained held on $20,500 bond Monday, records showed.
