A full National Transportation Safety Board team is on the scene of the deadly pedestrian bridge collapse that took place near Florida International University's campus in Miami on Thursday.
NTSB officials will conduct a full and complete investigation into the bridge accident and the events leading up to it, but Chair Robert Sumwalt says that authorities haven't been able to get up close to the wreckage just yet.
Sumwalt described the agency's response to the incident as a "multi-disciplinary team" comprised of 15 officials from a variety of backgrounds including civil engineers and crisis response experts.
Speaking Friday morning, Sumwalt said the NTSB has only conducted an initial inspection at this point.
The inspectors will write their own report with recommendations.
Their goal is to make sure this type of accident never happens again... anywhere in the country.
