Several schools in Tamarac and Sunrise were placed on lockdown Thursday morning due to police activity in the area.
Police activity was happening close to Millennium Middle School at 5803 NW 94th Ave. in Tamarac, according to officials with Broward County Public Schools.
Images from the scene showed parents arriving to campus and parking on the side of a nearby field. A group of parents could be seen speaking with officers.
Challenger Elementary School, which is nearby, was also placed on lockdown as a precaution.
A short time later, Sunrise police posted on Twitter that schools in the area of Commercial Boulevard and Northwest 94th Avenue had been placed on lockdown.
NBC6 is reporting that there is a person in the area with a gun.
No other details were immediately released.
