Miami Dolphins Release Lawrence Timmons In Continued Roster Purge

The Miami Dolphins continue their roster purge with the release of a linebacker.

The Fins have made it official -- on Tuesday morning they confirmed the release of Lawrence Timmons. In his one season with Miami, he recorded 84 tackles.

Timmons, who lost contract guarantees, was set to earn $5.5 million in 2018. The Dolphins save that amount against the cap by cutting him.

The roster changes will continue in the coming days with defensive tackle  Ndamukong Suh likely being cut and tight end Julius Thomas being released. With those changes, the Dolphins are saving more than $22 million in real dollars on a defense that was below average in 2017.

The Fins must also make a decision on right tackle Ja’Wuan James, who is due to earn $9 million on his fifth-year option.
