Marathon Man Accused Of Abandoning Dog In Hot Truck For 48 Hours

For reportedly locking a dog in his hot pickup truck for two days without food and water, a Marathon man is finding himself locked in a jail cell.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies say when they rescued the pooch on Thursday, the temperature inside the back of the covered truck was between 87 and 102 degrees.

David Ray Varie told investigators the apartment where he was staying didn't allow dogs, so his teenage son would go to the grocery store parking lot several times a day to let out the pet.

The 39-year-old is charged with animal abandonment and marijuana posession.

As of Friday morning, Varie was being held without bond.
