Bonita Springs Votes To Allow Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Medical marijuana advocates can celebrate a milestone in Southwest Florida.

The Bonita Springs City Council voted to become the first city in Lee County to allow dispensaries to open.

Florida voters supported a ballot initiative in 2016 to allow medical marijuana inside the state by over 70 percent, but many cities, like Bonita Springs, enacted moratoriums due to the restrictions placed on municipalities by legislators as to how dispensaries can be regulated.

Currently, dispensaries are only allowed in unincorporated parts of the county.

Those looking to immediately open a dispensary in Bonita Springs may still have another obstacle however. T

he "Naples Daily News" reports those interested in opening a dispensary can now submit an application for a permit.
