Broward Superintendent Runcie Talks Reopening Of School Following Shooting

Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie announced Friday that Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will reopen for classes on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Runcie commended teachers and other faculty who returned to the school on Friday, the first time the building's doors opened since the Feb. 14th shooting. He said they have a ton of courage.

Though classes on campus will resume, Runcie said that students and teachers who had classes in building 12, where the shooting took place, will be moved to other areas on campus. They will stay with their current class schedule.

During the press conference, Superintendent Runcie said he does not approve of putting guns in the hands of teachers. "They already have enough on their plates," said Runcie. "Instead there should be more of an investment made in law enforcement and their presence on school campuses."

Runcie said that the school district should spend money adding more officers on campus than arming teachers.
