Donations Being Collected For Middle School Affected By Parkland Shooting

A graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is creating care packages for students at another school affected by last week's massacre.

Stefanie Aurich, a 1998 graduate, and Ronit Horowitz are organizing the packages for students at Westglades Middle School – a school located right next door to Douglas High where students saw those fleeing the shooting rush onto their campus.

“These students have been traumatized as well; they were hiding under their desks while shooter was on their campus and high schoolers ran on their campus as well. West Glades was reopened on the day after the shooting. Sadly, and rightfully so, many students are afraid to return to school,” Horowitz wrote in a message on Facebook.

The duo are looking to create care packages for close to 1800 students and 130 staff members at the school. Items suggested for donation include:

  • Teddy bears
  • Snacks
  • School supplies
  • Juices or waters
  • Bags for the donations

The group is hoping to have their donations by Friday so they can be handed out next Monday.
