Watch: Sen. Bill Nelson Speaks From Stoneman Douglas High Campus

Democratic Florida Senator Bill Nelson spoke from the campus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Friday morning. Just two days earlier, suspected gunman, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, opened fire at the school, killing a total of 17 people.

"I hope [this tragedy] marks a turning point for the country," Nelson said in his address to the community. "I have hunted all my life. An AR-15 is used for killing, not hunting."

Nelson called on state and federal officials to change gun laws. The Florida legislature has the ability to outlaw weapons like other states have.
