Fed. Budget Requires $200M From FL Taxpayers For Lake O Damn?!

President Trump's proposed federal budget apparently requires Florida taxpayers to cough up $200-million to expedite repairs of the Herbert Hoover dike around Lake Okeechobee.

Last year, Governor Rick Scott requested the money to speed up the repairs by three years with the money to be repaid by the federal government.

However, the Trump budget does not characterize the state's contribution as a loan.

Democratic Senator Bill Nelson has pointed out that Congress just approved a disaster-funding bill with enough money for the Lake O project and says "Floridians shouldn't have to pay a dime to finish the dike."
