Florida Inmate Dead After Being Found Unresponsive In Hospital

A Florida inmate has died after being found unresponsive in a general population unit at a Florida jail.

Officials in Escambia County said in a news release that the 37-year-old inmate died Monday evening after arriving at a Pensacola hospital in Florida's Panhandle.

The release says the jail's medical director Dr. Paul Henning responded to the initial call and rode with the inmate in the ambulance to administer care. 

The inmate's name hasn't been released pending notification of his family. An investigation is underway by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
