Two Publix Employees Stabbed On The Job, Suspect In Custody

Police say two Miami Beach Publix employees were stabbed on the job Wednesday evening.

The incident happened at a Publix location in the 6800 block of Collins Avenue around 6:30 p.m.

Miami Beach Police said one male victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with a stab wound in his torso. The second victim sustained a laceration in the leg area and was taken to Aventura Hospital.

The suspect, Matthew Lawrence Miller, was handcuffed and taken to the back of police cruiser.

Police said an investigation into the incident is in its early stages, but they believe the suspect may have been shoplifting when an employee intervened. Police said Miller had pulled out a knife during the confrontation.

The conditions of the victims remain unknown, but they are expected to be OK.

Miller faces charges of aggravated battery, armed robbery and retail theft. He is expected to appear in court Thursday.
