UF To Alachua County: "Uh, Can We Have Our $300,000 Back?"

Can we get that $300,000 back?

That's the question the University of Florida is asking after it accidentally paid the bill Alachua County voided for providing security during white nationalist Richard Spencer's speaking event last year.

The school blames an "internal miscommunication."

“University of Florida leadership is fully reviewing all the costs associated with the 10/19 event before issuing any payments,” UF Spokesperson Steve Orlando wrote in a statement. “Since this was not a university-sponsored event and one that put the community at risk, UF is also reviewing all potential sources of responsibility before issuing any payments,” Orlando added.

The County Commission will determine what to do with the refund request.
