First Congressional Office Inside VA Facility Opens in South Florida

The first congressional office to operate inside a VA Medical Center opening it's doors in West Palm Beach Friday.

Representative Brian Mast says it's an opportunity for veterans to have access to the lawmakers serving them.

"It let's us be present for anything that's going on there so we can congratulate the good and make sure that we're lighting a fire under the bad.  That's what needs to happen.  If you want to get rid of something bad then start putting some scrutiny out there on it and you're going to see that reaction," said Rep. Brian Mast.

In order to have a continuous presence, several lawmakers will work out of the office on a rotating schedule.  Rep. Brian Mast will work on Mondays, Rep. Lois Frankel, Rep. Ted Deutch and Rep. Alcee Hastings will work the other days.

Representative Lois Frankel says her office spends a lot of time now on veterans cases and hopes this opportunity will let her help more service members.

"The men and women who have served our country should have every opportunity when they come out of the service to have productive and healthy lives," said Rep. Lois Frankel.
