Family Settles Lawsuit In Florida Prisoner's Shower Death

The family of a mentally ill Florida inmate who died after being left for nearly two hours in a hot shower has settled a civil rights lawsuit against the state's Department of Corrections.

The settlement comes nearly six years after 50-year-old Darren Rainey's death, which led to sweeping reforms in Florida's prison system. It also comes as the state is set to open a new residential prison treatment facility for inmates with mental illnesses.

Rainey'a daughter, brother and sister filed the lawsuit against the state department, it's medical contractor Corizon, the former warden at Dade Correctional Institution and two corrections officers.

The settlement notice, filed last week, didn't disclose the amount or terms of the agreement in the case.

Rainey had schizophrenia.
