Watch: Burger King Demonstrates Net Neutrality With Whopper Sandwiches

Do you understand net neutrality? Most people don't.

That's why popular fast food chain Burger King is taking matters into its own hands in trying to help Americans understand. They're just doing so by putting hamburgers in the spotlight.

The BK brand released an eye-opening (and LOL) video called Whopper Neutrality. It replicates scenarios that show the potential effect of the repeal of Net Neutrality... but with burgers.

The recent repeal of Net Neutrality means that:

  • Internet providers can throttle bandwidth
  • Offer paid fast lanes
  • Block content as they wish
  • Prioritize content as they wish

Whopper Neutrality reenacts what this repeal could mean at the counter with people buying Whopper Sandwiches.

During the experiment, restaurant guests that ordered their sandwiches at the regular price had to wait a very long time to receive their orders. Other who paid increased fees received their orders a lot sooner.

This caused infuriation.

When the ultra-aggravated customers learned they were part of this Whopper Neutrality experiment, everything clicked.

“We believe the internet should be like Burger King restaurants, a place that doesn’t prioritize and welcomes everyone,” said Fernando Machado, Burger King Global Chief Marketing Officer. “That is why we created this experiment, to call attention to the potential effects of net neutrality.”
