It's A Bird... It's A UFO... No! It's A Military Exercise In South Florida

Some South Florida residents wish they had been warned about an incident that left them rattled.

Black Hawk helicopters were seen flying low between Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale Monday and Tuesday nights in what turned out to be an urban training exercise.

For security reasons, no notice was given ahead of time, and that left some residents thinking the worst.

One Fort Lauderdale resident says the recent false alarm scare in Hawaii made this particularly frightening.

A bit of ease came in the form of a tweet before midnight, when Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca confirmed: “Our @USNavy is flying their best ‘Nighthawks’ over South Florida, training for urban situations.”

Another training session is planned in Palm Beach County sometime between Feb. 9-16, according to county officials there.
