Rubio Presents Bill That Would Punish Russian Meddling In U.S. Elections

A Florida Senator is trying to prevent Russia from meddling in our elections.

Marco Rubio and Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen (MD) introduced a bill Tuesday which would mandate severe and immediate economic sanction against Russia -- and other countries -- if the Director of National Intelligence determines it interfered in the process in any way.

Senior political figures would also be banned from entering the U.S. and their assets blocked.

Rubio and Van Hollen’s bill, called the Defending Elections from Threats by Establishing Redlines (DETER) Act, is the first bill since the 2016 presidential election that sets specific punishments for the Russian government and other countries that interfere in U.S. political campaigns.
