Miami-Dade Introduces eCitation Ticket Technology

Miami-Dade Police are unveiling a new eCitation program that they say will cut traffic stop time at least by half.

The eCitation technology will allow officers to scan the barcode on a person's license or registration in order to cross reference car and driver information on their database quicker.

The program begins this week as an extension of the software previously used by officers when creating crash reports and writing tickets.

Miami-Dade officials say the new technology can cut the time it takes for the average stop – sometimes as high as 20 minutes for handwritten tickets – to as low as five minutes in some cases.
