USGS Map of Earthquake

A tsunami advisory is in effect after a powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck in the Caribbean Sea.

The advisory warns of the possibility of tsunami waves affecting Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands that could arrive near 1:00 AM local time.

The USGS says that hazardous tsunami waves are "possible" for coasts located within 1,000 kilometers of the earthquake epicenter. That also includes the coasts of Jamaica, Mexico, Honduras, Cuba and others.
