Motorists in the state capital are encountering a new type of traffic signal.
The city of Tallahassee began installing flashing yellow arrow traffic signals at select intersections on Sunday.
The Florida Department of Transportation has already installed the system in other areas of Florida, including St. Johns County, Flagler County and Seminole County.
Studies by the Federal Highway Administration have shown the flashing yellow arrows can help reduce left-turn crashes by as much as 35 percent.
Research also indicates that the arrows are easier to understand than the traditional yield-on-green indicators, which are represented by a solid green light.
