Miami Man Saves 200+ Iguanas From Florida Cold Snap, Finds Them Homes

A Miami man is credited with saving more than 200 iguanas from the South Florida cold snap this past week.

Michael Holston, 24, spent Thursday night boating through South Florida canals; on the lookout for the non-native species.

“I know, buddy, it’s freaking cold out here, dude,” he was seen saying as he grabbed a green iguana off a tree branch.

When temperatures drop, the lizards become paralyzed by the cold. “If they fall in the water, they are going to die,” he said in an interview with 7 News. “It breaks my heart because I’m an animal lover, and I just try my best to help.”

On Thursday alone, Holston brought 233 iguanas into his home, where he put them in bins and pillowcases. He indicated he will find a home for every single one of them, adding that 216 of them are already spoken for.

“People all over the world. The internet helps me,” he said. “It could go from a baby to an adult iguana. They get homes, every single one of them.”

Holston shares his missions with nearly 450,000 followers on Instagram, where he’s known as “The Real Tarzann.”

“We’re animals lovers, whether they’re invasive or not,” he said.
