A congressman from the Jacksonville-area is jumping into the already crowded gubernatorial race.
Rep. Ron DeSantis announced Friday morning that he's filing paperwork to make it official.
The 39-year-old also mentioned that he already has the backing of the President. Donald Trump tweeted a couple of weeks ago that DeSantis is "a brilliant young leader" who "would make a GREAT governor."
“With the support of the president, I’m in a position to exercise the leadership that can build on the great work [current Gov.] Rick Scott has done to advance economic opportunity, reform education and drain the swamp in Tallahassee,” DeSantis told Fox News.
Mr. DeSantis is a former Navy lawyer who made a name for himself recently by questioning special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into collusion claims between the president and Russian officials.
