Footage Shows Deadly Carjacking Of Coral Gables Hotel Shuttle Van

New surveillance footage shows a deadly incident in which a Coral Gables hotel employee was run over and killed by a man attempting to steal a shuttle van.

Edward Reid, 40, is accused of killing 62-year-old Eladio Rodriguez on Nov. 12.

Reid is accused of carjacking a van in that was supposed to take three passengers to the Miami International Airport from the Courtyard by Marriott on Le Jeune Road.

According to police, Reid hopped into the van as it sat outside of the hotel with the passengers already inside. Once the passengers realized the man was attempting to steal the vehicle, they began screaming.

Hearing the screams, Rodriguez allegedly ran out and in front of the vehicle to stop Reid from driving away. Instead, Reid allegedly hit the gas pedal, driving directly over the hotel worker.

Reid, who has pleaded not guilty, is charged with first-degree murder, robbery and carjacking. Prosecutors are currently seeking the death penalty.

Rodriguez was an electrical engineer in Cuba who came to the U.S. three years ago.

He began working toward that dream by beginning to work at the Marriott in October of 2014.
