FL Man Holds Up Gas Station Over 89-Cent Cigar, Police Say

A Royal Palm Beach man is accused of robbing a Port St. Lucie gas station on Christmas eve for an 89-cent cigar.

The Chevron cashier said 33-year-old Tarvice Payne didn't have money and threatened to kill him if he didn't give him the cigar.

"You're going to die tonight for 85 cents?" Payne told the cashier, according to two witnesses who spoke to police.

The cashier handed over the cigar and Paynet left, but then returned, this time threatening to kill the cashier if he contacted police.

A witness told police Payne left again after stealing an American flag and was drinking alcohol and yelling in his car, according to the report.

Officers arrested Tarvice Payne at around 8 p.m. after finding him at the gas station on the 400 block of Southwest Port St. Lucie Boulevard smoking the cigar.

He was being held at the St. Lucie County Jail as of Tuesday afternoon on a $65,000 bond.
