Governor Rick Scott is urging Congress to pass a disaster relief funding package.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Scott pointed out that Floridians have been fighting to recover from Hurricane Irma while, at the same time, lending a helping hand to Puerto Rican refugees displaced by Hurricane Maria.
He calls the package recently proposed by the U.S. House "encouraging."
The governor says the recovery funding would:
- Aid Florida citrus growers
- Help school districts educate displaced students from Puerto Rico
- Assist in repairing Florida infrastructure
